Rauw Alejandro
Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. The song was a mix of pop and reggaeton that did not just bring new interest to reggaeton, but an increase in interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish mainly, and 4 more songs in the year 2016. At the height of Despacito's popularity, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish made it to the Billboard Top 100. By 2020 it will be 41 tracks from this category. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix from Despacito (2017) well-known artists have begun collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma with Maluma on Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, some Reggaeton musicians were expressing their displeasure with the direction of the genre towards mainstream. But, the younger generation Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution. His music often contained elements from various genres, as well as electronic dance.
